About to introduce a new kitten into the family? Proper preparation is important to ensure that the process goes as smoothly as possible. Here’s how to prepare for kittens!

New Kitten Tips: Creating a Safe, Kitten-Proof Den!

It’s best to focus your preparation efforts on a single room. This is going to be your kitty’s den, and it’s where they should usually stay until they get used to the new environment.

It’s important that this room isn’t too big, and it’s properly kitten-proofed. You should remove any accessible medications and hide electrical cords. From there, you’ll just need to fill it with their stuff!

How to Prepare for Kittens: Checklist

Not to alarm you, but there’s quite a lot you need for a new cat. Here’s an easy-to-follow checklist for a new kitten!

Kitten food. The previous owner of the kitten should tell you what kitten food they’ve been eating. You should continue feeding this food for now. If you’d like to change the food they’re on, be sure to pick a high-quality one – follow this guide to learn more.

Food and water bowls. Small bowls work best here.

Litter tray and cat litter. There’s many cat litters to choose from. I’d recommend checking out this article to find the best for your household and cat.

Cat bed. Kittens do a lot of sleeping, so a comfy cat bed works wonders!

Travel carrier. You’ll need your cat used to this, so keep it in the room even when it isn’t in use.

Set up a check-up with the vet. It’s always best to get a general health exam for a new kitten. You can set up appointments for vaccinations too.

Ryan Jones

If you’re a new dog owner, or you’re just looking for some tips on how to help their pooch reach a better degree of health, then you’re in the right place! Today, we’re going to cover what exactly makes a healthy dog.

After all, our pups need our help! There’s a lot of things that they cannot do by themselves, so it’s integral that we do our part. It’s nothing complicated – we just need to follow a few simple routines. Read on to find out everything you need to know!

Dog Coat Care

Without proper coat care, your pup will quickly find themselves in a very uncomfortable state. Imagine if you went without a shower for a few weeks – that’s how a poor dog feels when it hasn’t been brushed for a while! A healthy dog should have a smooth and luxurious coat so that they can be both comfortable and looking good!

If you don’t attend to your pup’s coat, you’ll likely run into matting and skin infections. Both can be incredibly painful conditions that can worsen without treatment. Luckily, by giving your dog a thorough brush each day, you’ll be able to avoid all of these issues.

However, if your pooch needs a deep clean or some extra love, we’d recommend contacting our expert groomers. They are the kings and queens of doggie grooming – they can bathe your pooch with organic shampoo, care for their paws and skin, and whatever else you may require, all at a reasonable price.

Dog Dental Care

Another key aspect of raising a healthy dog is dental care. Dental disease is incredibly common – in fact, over 80% of dogs over the age of three are experiencing an active form of the condition. If left untreated, your dog can run into super painful conditions that will likely affect their quality of life.

That’s why you must clean your pup’s teeth regularly. Ideally, you’ll give their teeth a thorough brush with a doggie-appropriate toothbrush and toothpaste once a day.

Again, this is another service our groomers excel at! If you need help cleaning your pup’s teeth, just let us know and we’ll soon turn your pup’s bad breath into something a bit more pleasant!

Healthy Dog Diet

Choosing the right diet can have a huge effect on your pup’s overall health. However, it’s understandably difficult to find the right food for your pooch – after all, there are so many choices and differing opinions out there.

To start, get a good idea of what your doggo might require from their diet. What age are they? Are they a bit of a couch potato, or do they never stop running about? Do they have any health conditions to consider? All of these can change what the ideal diet is for your pooch.

If you’re unsure which diet is right for your pupper, we recommend following your vet’s advice. They know what nutrition your particular pup needs and the best diet to achieve that.

How Groomit Can Help Keep Your Dog Healthy

We hope this article has given you a basic understanding of the needs of your pooch and how best to achieve them. By pampering our pups with the best care possible, we can help ensure that they live long and fulfilling lives.

And for the best in pampering, you’re already with the experts! Groomit provides grooming services that are delivered straight to your door, offering both house call grooming and mobile pet grooming. Your pups are kept anxiety-free while our groomers work their magic, helping your pup’s coat, teeth, and more.

As your dog begins to reach its older years, some changes may be necessary to ensure that they remain happy and healthy for many years to come. With the right care, your senior pooch will be able to enjoy their golden years to the fullest! That why in this article we’re going to cover everything you need to know about caring for senior dogs.

Senior pups naturally have lower energy and a risk of running into joint problems or other health conditions. You may need to change their grooming routine, diet, and activity levels. Let’s first take a look at grooming and how to properly care for your old dog’s skin and coat.

Grooming Older Dogs

A common issue that senior dogs run into is problems with their coat and skin. This could be matting or various skin conditions.

The reason that these problems tend to arise with old age is usually due to your pooch self-grooming at a reduced rate, or not at all. This usually happens due to stiff and painful joints that make it hard for your pupper to groom themselves comfortably.

The lack of grooming can quickly lead to knots and tangles in the fur. Trapped oils, dander, and dead skin can also cause irritation and inflammation. Luckily, these problems are easily solved with regular grooming.

You should expect to have to give your pup’s coat and skin a little more love in their older years. Brush their coat out regularly and the occasional bath doesn’t hurt either! Remember, our groomers are the experts, especially when it comes to caring for senior dogs. If you ever need any help, give us a shout!

Exercising a Senior Dog

A senior dog also usually experiences a decline in energy. They won’t be as physically energetic as they once were. If joint problems and other age-related conditions are present, this can further lower their overall energy reserves.

Because of this, it’s important that we adjust their daily exercise routine to better match their current energy levels. Strenuous exercise should be avoided, along with significantly long walks. Instead, you could take your pooch for a few short and relaxing walks each day.

However, part of caring for senior dogs is not letting them get bored! While they may be less physically active, they still need plenty of mental stimulation. Use puzzle toys or enrichment games to keep your doggo having fun!

Senior Dog Diet

Due to your old pup having lower energy levels, they may need a change in diet. A diet that is balanced to cater to an energetic adult dog is likely no longer appropriate for your older pup.

This is why many older dogs start to pack on the pounds – which can put a lot more strain on their joints. To avoid this, you should transition your pooch onto food that is specifically balanced for senior dogs.

These foods also usually come with nutrients that can help promote the health of your pup’s joints, which can be a great help during this period of their life.

Caring for Senior Dogs: How We Can Help!

By following the above tips, your elderly pup should have everything they need to live out the rest of their years peacefully. Remember, if you’re unsure about anything at all, work with your vet. They can give you recommendations specific to your pup on their diet and exercise needs.

Additionally, our grooming service is perfect for senior pups. Because we provide in-home grooming, we can come directly to your door. Your pooch won’t have to travel anywhere or experience the stressors of a pet salon. You’ll also be able to speak with your groomer directly, telling us exactly what your pup needs.

If you want your elderly pup to get a real taste of luxury, be sure to make an appointment with us as soon as possible!

We look forward to meeting you and your lovely doggo!

Happy New Year! Many of us are taking the New Year as an opportunity to better ourselves and Groomit is no different. We have plenty of exciting things on the horizon, but to start the New Year off right, we’ve decided to expand our services to include mobile grooming!

For those who love our in-home grooming service, don’t worry – there’s nothing changing with that! The mobile grooming option will just be another way to experience our quality grooming.

But which option is best for you and your pet? We’re going to cover the basics of what mobile grooming is and how it differs from in-home grooming, so you can make an informed decision between the two. Read on to find out which option is right for you!

Benefits of Mobile Grooming

If you aren’t sure what mobile grooming is, it’s where our groomer will come to your home in a van that is fully equipped to carry out the grooming process. These vans are climate-controlled, clean environments that are completely safe and comfortable for your dog & cat.

The Groomit van will arrive near your home and you will be responsible for drop-off & pick up of your pet. This also comes with the benefit that you don’t have to prepare and create a space for the grooming to take place. Furthermore, eliminating the need for providing towels and a water supply for the groomers.

Additionally, as your pet is just outside your home, they are always only a moment’s notice away. This makes it a much better option than the traditional pet grooming salon.

Benefits of In-Home Grooming

In-home grooming is particularly fantastic for timid pets who commonly run into problems with anxiety. It allows them to be groomed in their home environment, where they feel the safest. You can stay right with them during the entire process, which can help the both of you feel at ease!

It also lets you watch your groomer work and ask any questions you may have or make any requests. This gives you more personal control of the grooming as it takes place.

All in all, in-home grooming allows for a lot more transparency than mobile grooming, and the fact that it takes place in the home can help a nervous pet relax and have a more positive experience.

Which is Right for Me?

The best choice for you depends on yourself and the pet in question! If your pet is prone to anxiety, in-home grooming may make for the more appropriate option. However, if you have a more outgoing cat or dog and want the best in convenience, mobile grooming may be better.

Remember that whichever grooming option you choose, your pet will still be receiving the same five-star Groomit treatment! Both our mobile grooming and in-home grooming provide your pet with the best in pet grooming today. Here’s a quick list of the major benefits both services share:

COVID-safe – Our groomers take every precaution possible to keep you and your pets safe

Protected by premium insurance

No need to travel with your pet – less hassle, less anxiety

Zero exposure to other pets

No cage drying – our groomers perform the drying process themselves

Only organic and non-toxic products are used

Mobile Grooming vs In-Home Grooming

We hope this article has helped to make clear the major differences between our two grooming services. At Groomit, we are always striving to provide your pet with the best service in the most convenient fashion possible. The inclusion of mobile grooming services is another step forward in that regard.

If you want to try our new mobile grooming service, or would like to stick with our in-home grooming, you can book an appointment here for whenever is best for you and your pet!

We hope to see you soon and wish you all the best for 2021!

A beneficial and extensive routine is one of the best ways you can ensure that your pet is receiving all the care it needs day to day. And due to the New Year, this is a perfect time to craft one!
So here are some important items to include in your schedule for the new year of 2022!

1. Pet Vaccinations

As always, pet vaccinations should be at the top of your to-do list. This is due to the New Year coming with the possibility that your pet may need booster vaccinations or even new ones entirely.

Therefore, if your pet has a yearly check-up at the vet, it can be prudent to ensure that you ask if there are any recommended vaccinations or boosters your pet may require.

If you don’t have a check-up planned, it can always be a good idea to get one sorted if possible!

We require all dogs to be up-to-date on their vaccinations, especially Rabies and Distemper vaccines. All necessary vaccinations must be administered at least 24 hours prior to your scheduled appointment.

2. Pet Exercise Plan

Are you sure your pet is getting enough exercise? Whilst cats usually do a good job of making their own fun if they are provided with enough toys and a big enough area to jump around, dog exercise requires a bit more help from us humans.

With most breeds being much bigger than cats, they need to be outside to fully stretch out their legs. To avoid negative behavior traits or obesity, meeting your breed’s exercise requirements are a must. Long walks and play are a good way of achieving this.

Having a weekly exercise plan can be a great way of keeping track and ensuring that your pet is receiving all the exercise it needs.

3. Pet Diet Plan

Just like with us humans, a good diet for our pets helps keep them healthy and free of potential health conditions.

Being aware of what you are feeding your pet and discussing with your vet what makes a good diet for your particular furry friend are good first steps in ensuring that they are receiving all the nutrients they need.

For more tips on providing a good diet for your pets, check here for cats and here for dogs.

4. Pet Grooming Plan

If you have a new pup that still hasn’t had their first professional grooming, preparing them beforehand can be a great idea. After all, how the first puppy grooming session goes is key to how your doggo will approach all future grooming.

If they find the experience scary, they’re likely to find all future sessions scary too. So, it’s key that we show them that being groomed is a good thing that leads to plenty of rewards and treats! In this article, I’m going to cover how to prepare your pup for their first professional grooming session and why Groomit is your best choice.

Preparing for Your First Puppy Grooming

As grooming involves a lot of touch and handling, getting your puppy used to this is your main priority. To do this, frequently touch your pooch in areas that your groomer is likely going to need to pay attention to, such as the tummy, paws, nails, ears, and inner thigh.

You can also get your puppy used to being handled. Lightly holding them still on a table and in the bath or sink (with a shallow amount of water), can be a great way of teaching them to accept the handling of our groomers.

With all the above training techniques, be sure to give rewards for good behavior. This shows your pup that grooming leads to good things!

For your first grooming appointment, we’d advise your puppy to be around 12-16 weeks of age. During this period, your puppy should be eager to try new things, making it a perfect time to make a good lasting impression. We require that your puppy is fully up-to-date with all vaccinations, so ensure you’ve taken care of this too!

Finally, I’ve been referring to puppies a lot during this article, but all of the above can work for older dogs who have never experienced professional grooming, such as rescue dogs. The only difference is that you should take it more slowly with such doggos, as they are likely to be more wary and fearful.

There’s nothing to worry about with us; our expert groomers are well-trained in rescue grooming and dealing with fearful pups!

What to Expect on Your First Groomit Appointment!

Our service is perfect for a new dog’s first grooming session! After all, our grooming takes place within your own home, where your pup is most comfortable. You can be with them the whole time to give encouragement, unlike with many other traditional grooming businesses.

As our expert groomers need to work their magic in your home, you can help us out by setting up a space for the grooming to take place. A bathtub works fine for most dogs, whereas a sink will be satisfactory for toy breeds. Having a table ready can also help us out a lot, along with some towels for drying up.

Making an appointment is super easy to do through our app. It can help to keep your first few puppy grooming appointments simple while your dog gets used to the process. You can also let our groomer know it’s your pup’s first time. They’ll be happy to take it slow and offer your pooch plenty of encouragement and kindness!

Like your groomer? You can set them as a favorite so that they can be your groomer for your future appointments too. Looks like your puppy just made a new friend!

Groomit is the Best Option for New Pups!

If you’re looking for expert puppy or dog grooming near you and you live within NYC, Westchester, North Jersey, Long Island, Connecticut, or Miami, you can do no better than Groomit! Make an appointment now!

If we’re not yet in our service area, you can help us change that. We want our customers to be our owners and we’re looking to expand further across the US. Check out our WeFunder to invest in our rapidly-growing company.

We hope this article has helped you prepare your pup and we can’t wait to meet them!

As we enter the month of October, many of us are excited for Halloween and all the other delights that Fall brings with it. However, this month is special for animals too, especially those within shelter. After all, it’s Adopt a Dog month! Which is why we thought it’d be a great idea to cover some pet adoption tips.

During this special month, we should all take some time to consider what we could be doing to help the many dogs stuck within shelters. There’s no reason why we shouldn’t give some thought to the many cats in shelters too!

While adoption is the best way to help sheltered animals, it’s paramount that you ensure that you have the space, time, and energy to raise an animal before you adopt. Therefore, in this article, we’re going to cover what you need to consider before adopting a pet.

Keep reading for some great pet adoption tips!

Why Adoption is Sorely
Needed

Around 6.5 million animals enter American animal shelters
each year. Devastatingly, 1.5 million of these animals are euthanized. Many of
these animals are perfectly healthy, but because these shelters are
consistently overburdened and overcrowded, they have to be euthanized to make
space.

It’s particularly relevant to animals that are of senior age
or that may have pre-existing medical conditions. These pets are usually
difficult to rehome, as many families prefer young animals.

However, senior pets with and without medical issues can
still be very fulfilling companions. They’re just as deserving of a loving home
and family.

We believe that no animal deserves to die simply due to a
simple lack of space. Adoption, in a very real sense, saves lives. Especially
for those pets that may be old or with health conditions. Due to this, it’d be
amazing if many of us could help out by adopting!

Pet Adoption Tips – Important Considerations

The goal of pet adoption is to provide these animals with a
loving, permanent home. If you don’t think you can provide this, then adoption
isn’t a good option for you. It’s very important that you consider whether you
have the time or space to adopt a pet before rushing into any decisions.

Therefore, it’s a great idea to consider every aspect of adopting a pet before committing to an adoption. You don’t want to take an animal out of a shelter just to put them straight back in! Ensure you consider their energy levels, grooming requirements, level of training, health, and so on.

Many shelters are happy to work with you, helping you to find an animal that is right for you. Be sure to make use of them and their expertise, as it will make things a lot easier!

If you feel like you can’t take on an animal currently,
that’s okay! There’s plenty of other ways you can help shelters, such as
through donations. Click
here for examples of items many animal shelters are in need of.

Happy Adopt a Dog Month!

Adoptions go a long way to helping every companion animal throughout America live a long and fulfilling life. If you feel like you could take on a new pet, please consider adopting instead of buying!

There are plenty of sites that can help match a prospective
pet with your current situation and preferences. See below:

PetFinder

ASPCA

Adopt-a-Pet

If you find yourself adopting a pet this Fall, remember that
we at Groomit are more than happy to help care for them! We’d love to provide
your newly-adopted pet with a real taste of luxury. Feel free to take a look
through our services to see how we
can help!

Most of the time, our pets will be sure to let us know if they need something. For example, cats may meow loudly at their food bowl, while dogs may run about the home with their leash in their mouth!

However, when it comes to grooming, our pets usually don’t
let us know until it gets really bad. Therefore, we need to be on the lookout
for the subtle signs that our pets could do with a good groom before they have
to deal with any nasty issues!

In this article, we’re going to cover the common indicators
that your dog or cat may need grooming, along with how we at Groomit can help!

It’s Time for Pet Grooming When You Feel Matted Fur!

If you’re feeling hard bumps or rigid hair throughout your
pet’s coat during cuddles, they could be experiencing matting. This is where
their fur tangles together into knots, which can be painful, uncomfortable, and
if left alone, may become a serious health risk.

These mats become harder to deal with over time, so getting them sorted early can save you and your pet a lot of stress! If you need more information about dealing with mats, check out our article on the subject.

If you are struggling to detangle a knot, never reach for
the scissors! The trimming and shaving of mats should solely be left to the
professionals. Reach out to us at Groomit
and we’d be more than happy to help!

It’s Time for Pet Grooming When You Hear Clacking Claws!

When you can hear your pet coming from the next room due to
their clacking claws, it’s usually a sign of long nails that are in need of a
good trim!

Both dogs and cats can experience overly long nails, which can lead to a lot of discomfort and a higher risk of injury when they’re out and about. Therefore, a good pet grooming schedule should always include regular nail trimming.

Nail trimming can be performed at home, but many pets like
to wriggle and writhe, making it all the more difficult. If your pet tries to
escape once he sees the nail trimmer, it’s a much better idea to get in touch with us at Groomit. Our
professional groomers are trained to trim nails safely and efficiently, even
with the most fidgety of animals!

It’s Time for Pet Grooming After a Muddy Misadventure!

As we begin to enter Fall, the weather is likely to worsen.
This will lead to more rain, which means more mud, which means more
opportunities for our pets to dive headfirst into muddy puddles for fun!

However, many pets forget about the dreaded bath that comes
after these misadventures! While you could just give them a good rinse off, for
the best results you should give us a
call at Groomit.

We’ll be over as soon as possible to bathe your pet using
only natural shampoo and conditioner, along with hypoallergenic options. After
we’re done with your pet, they’ll look even better than they did before their muddy
mischief!

Groomit Makes Pet Grooming Easy!

We hope you’ve enjoyed this fun article on the common signs
that your pet needs a good groom. We’ve only covered the tip of the iceberg –
there are plenty more reasons why your pet may need a thorough grooming
session.

Always be sure to keep an eye on not only their coat, but their eyes, ears, and paws too. If you find these may need some care, be sure to give us a call. We’re always happy to provide top-quality dog grooming and cat grooming!

Remember, we come straight to your door and groom your pet in a completely stress-free environment. Our service offers the utmost in both quality and convenience.

Make an appointment now and see what makes our in-home pet grooming service the best around!

In need of a cat vaccination guide? You’re in the right place!

If you have an unvaccinated cat, you will most likely be anxious
to get things sorted as quickly as possible so that your cat is protected.

However, there are a lot of vaccines for cats out there. Are
they all necessary, or even safe? It can be a big source of worry, especially
for new cat owners.

But that’s why we thought it’d be a great idea to cover exactly what you need to know! In this article, we’ll cover what vaccines are recommended for your kitty.

So, let’s get into it!

Cat Vaccination Guide – Core vs Non-Core Vaccines

There are two distinct categories of vaccines. These are known as “Core” and “Non-Core”.

A core vaccine is one that is generally recommended for all
cats. They protect against infectious diseases that may be very dangerous with
a high mortality rate, along with widespread and contagious viruses.

Core vaccines tend to protect the cat for a long time and
are proven to be very efficient and safe. There is very little chance of experiencing
any severe cat vaccination side effects.

On the other hand, non-core vaccines aren’t recommended for
all cats. This is because they protect against diseases that are uncommon or
not a big threat to their life.

However, they may still be recommended by vets for cats with
unique lifestyles or situations that cause them to have a higher risk for such
diseases.

As an example, a non-core vaccine known as the FeLV vaccine
is routinely recommended by vets. However, it can only be given to kittens that
have already tested negative for the virus. Discuss with your vet about whether
this vaccination is right for your cat.

In contrast, core vaccinations are always recommended. Let’s
take a look at them now!

Rabies Vaccine

Rabies is an untreatable disease, which always results in the death of the cat. In the case of infection, euthanasia is usually the recommended course of action.

Therefore, protecting your cat against rabies is incredibly important. Once an infection takes hold, there’s nothing that can be done.

There are two different kinds of rabies vaccines that are generally
used across the States. One gives protection for a single year, while another keeps
your cat protected for three.

Regardless of which form of the vaccine is used, it is given as a single dose at 12-16 weeks of age. The first booster shot is given a year later.

Then, depending on which type of vaccine is being used,
further booster shots will occur either annually or every three years.

Combination Vaccine

The second core vaccination given to cats is actually a
combination of various vaccines into a single shot. This is to lessen the number
of injections your cat needs to have.

The combination vaccine will protect against the following viruses:

Herpesvirus 1

Calicivirus

Panleukopenia Virus

These viruses can cause nasty illnesses and can be very contagious. Vaccinating to avoid infection is heavily recommended.

Once the cat is six weeks of age, the initial dose can be given. Additional doses follow every two to three weeks until the cat has reached sixteen weeks old.

The first booster will be given one year later. Afterward, your cat will be due a booster every three years.

Cat Vaccination Guide – Keep them Healthy and Protected

Vaccinating your new kitten can be a scary prospect, but it offers them protection from some horrible diseases that can potentially cut their life short.

You can find more information on both core and non-core vaccinations for cats here.

Once you have gone through the initial round of vaccinations,
it can be a good idea to keep a plan of upcoming boosters, so that you don’t
miss any!

We hope this article has given you everything that you need
to know about cat vaccination. Stick around

We’re excited to announce that Groomit is crowdfunding for investments! Would you like to be the next to invest in a fast-growing startup within the booming pet industry?

Our in-home grooming service has done nothing but wow the
residents of New York City, Connecticut, and Philadelphia. Now, we’re looking
to the future. We want to continue to expand our service so that we may bring
our impeccable grooming service to even more pet owners.

Have we captured your interest? Keep reading to find out
what sets Groomit apart from the competition and why we make for a great
investment.

What is Groomit All About?

Groomit is a service that prides itself on providing expert dog and cat grooming for their customers in the most convenient way possible; by coming directly to your door. Customers simply need to make an appointment on the mobile app and choose a grooming package. Then, we’ll automatically match them with an appropriate expert groomer.

Our on-demand in-home grooming solution is a far cry from
how the pet grooming industry has functioned in the past, with pet salons
requiring pet owners to drive their animals down to the grooming business for
their appointment.

This causes a lot of stress, both to the owner and the
animal! A lot of us simply don’t have the time to frequently drive our pets
around, while the animals themselves don’t tend to enjoy it either.

Groomit’s unique solution has been a huge hit with the busy residents of NYC, Connecticut, and Philadelphia, which is why we are such a fast-growing startup. We’ve provided pets with all the love and care they need while offering our customers the utmost in convenience.

Investment Startups: Why Invest in Groomit?

As a fast-growing startup, investing with us will allow our business to expand further, bringing our services to more pet owners throughout the U.S. This, of course, will come with benefits for our investors too!

Your investment will be converted into equity within the
company at a $6,000,000 cap. This will lead to a fantastic return on your
investment as we continue to grow our revenue further. We can also offer some
various fun perks for our investors, ranging from merchandise to free
appointments depending on the amount invested.

As a bit of a background on our current revenue, we’ve generated $1.5 million in NYC alone. This will easily transfer to other metropolitan areas across the U.S. On top of our revenue, we have average ratings of 4.5 and up on Yelp, so you know our service is of true quality.

If you’re quick, you will be able to take advantage of our early bird terms; our first investors will receive the best terms of the bunch!
